Over the past week we have had two incidents where someone has presented themselves as a meter reader for the electric company or an inspector for NW Natural Gas. In both cases it was confirmed by NW Natural and Pacific Power that they did not have people in the area performing this work. The actions of both people were suspicious as they attempted to enter backyards. (In one case the backyard was entered.) One of these cases was on SW 3rd in Mill City and the other on Pirtle Dr., off of Riverside Drive in SW Albany. In both of these cases the suspicious person was driving a white pickup, but detailed descriptions are not available, other than the one in Mill City was similar in shape of a Pacific Power pickup. The person in the Mill City incident was wearing regular clothing, while the one on Pirtle might have had a NW Natural logo on his shirt.
There was a third incident on Riverside Drive three weeks ago involving an alleged NW Natural employee that is suspicious in that he was driving an out of state car.
Please make sure everyone is aware of these incidents and be on the look out in their neighborhoods. If anyone observes similar activities that are suspicious, please encourage them to call dispatch (541-967-3911) with as much detail as possible, including vehicle license numbers. This is a classic process for casing properties for thefts or burglaries.
